Write a Winning Mystery Shopping Report
So, you’ve completed your first mystery shop. Now comes the important bit: the report. This is where your experience becomes valuable to the business.
Keep it clear and honest
Businesses don’t want flowery language – they want the facts. Was the shop floor tidy? Did the assistant smile? Did you have to wait? Write what happened, simply and truthfully.
Use real examples
Instead of writing, “The staff were friendly,” write, “The staff member smiled, greeted me within 10 seconds, and offered help.” That’s useful feedback.
Take accurate timings
One of the most useful details in any report is timing. Make notes throughout your visit – such as when you were seated, when your order was taken, when drinks and food arrived, and the time you paid the bill and left. These timings help the business understand how efficient their service is and spot areas where customers may be kept waiting.
Follow the brief
Every assignment will have specific questions. Stick to them and avoid adding unrelated details.
Check your spelling and grammar
Reports should be easy to read. Run a quick spell-check before submitting.
A strong, clear report doesn’t just help the company – it helps you too. Agencies notice when shoppers do a great job and are more likely to offer you future assignments.
